The hind shown in the next series of photos was taken using 150gr SST's out of a .270WSM. The hunter had followed Nathan's instructions and annealed his SST projectiles. The process of annealing bullets can be found on this website and in greater detail within Nathans book The Practical Guide to Long Range Hunting Cartridges.
Our reader shot this Red deer hind at a range of 345 yards, the point of impact can be seen in the below photo. The entry wound can be seen where the stick is pointing.
The next photo reveals the amount of trauma created by the annealed SST combined with good penetration.
The point where the projectile arrested just under the skin can be seen in the next two photos.
This was an instant poleax, the hind dropping so fast that she seemed to have vanished. The hunter was amazed at the amount of damage combined with adequate penetration. In his own words: Annealing certainly seems to work.
(Note this process has its limits- best used use on high SD bullets only as per instructions - NF).
