Below is an African Oryx taken on
safari in Namibia on Orua Ranch. This animal was taken with a Mauser M03 300 Win Mag, using a Federal Premium 180 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw Tipped bullet at a range of approximately 100 yards. Muzzle velocity approximately 2920fps, impact velocity 2668fps.
The animal was quartering away and was struck just behind the right shoulder. Although hit well it ran for roughly 50 yards before dropping. Note the blow back in the entry wound, the TBBC dumped vast amounts of energy on impact, it was not a tumbling entry wound. Other animals shot during the safari did not exhibit signs of blow back. Wounding was otherwise identical, fast expansion, good internal wounding, good penetration, recovered bullets displaying uniform results,
The bullet struck the top of the heart and lungs, penetrated the off side shoulder but did not exit the skin.
Recovered projectiles from the hunt.
