Dennis MahonyHi guys,Bought a sako 85 for better or worse... Is there any aftermarket fix for the wood-screwed recoil lug setup, or a good bedding procedure? I can't believe Sako even does this... Anyway, advice /chastisement always welcome! Happy easter and kind regards, Dennis Qld, Australia |

Nathan FosterRe: Sako 85 recoil lug/plateHi Dennis, this is discussed in the book set. Ideally, the plate needs to be removed and the rifle bedded to duplicate the A7 which in turn duplicates the Tikka. The plate likely has epoxy under it. 1. Remove the plate screws. 2. Lay ali tape on the sides / about the wood to protect it. If you don't have ali tape, maybe just try wet cloth and then tin foil. Next, try laying hot water bottles over the stock and under it for 10 minutes or so as a preheat, then apply focused heat to the plate use a butane torch. Bunnings etc have small flame torches but I see also that some engineers supplies now stock mini torches, not much bigger than a lighter. 3. A short burst of focused heat will help bring it above 100C. Once its hot, try to drift / pry it out. 4. Set about rebedding using a Steel Tikka lug or 6x25mm bar stock. If you need more help, contact me directly. Note also that the Tikka bedding video (See Video learning) may be useful to you. OK, hope that helps a bit. All the best. |
