Lane SalvatoThis sort of post shows how desperate I am for hunting season to arrive. If you could only have six calibers to live with for the rest of your life, which would they be? One of my friends asked me this the other day, and I chose the following:223 243 30-06 7 mm Rem. Mag. 35 Whelen 45-70 I could have just as easily gone with the 375 H & H over the 45-70, but thought that I might as well have one lever action rifle. What do you guys think? What's funny, is that my actual rifles are the 223, 25-06, 270, 7 mm-08, and 338 Win. Mag. Not much difference except for the 25-06 doesn't have the bullet availability that the 243 does. |

Mike DavisRe: If You Had to Live with Six Rifle Calibersvery close to my pick there Warrick.22lr .223 rem .270win or .30/06 .12ga shotgun um um um um um yeah that would do it,all time dream rifle for bush stalking would be SxS Bakail in .45/70 ....but they do it in dirtyo6 too so that would be just fine n dandy one barrel a big heavy softy and the more accurate /closer to sights one with faster load for longer shots......something 180ish grns in weight now that just about covers anything that walks the earth. |

Luke LahdenrantaRe: If You Had to Live with Six Rifle CalibersI am slowly reworking my little gun collection into something more practical than I got now (32-40 really ?!?)1. 223 2. 243 95 gr Federal Fusion 3. 30-30/32 Special I have both, they are currently wrestling for the lever gun slot. 4. 30-06 208 gr ELD M 5. ???? Maybe a 35 Whelen or 9.3x62 for fantasy giant space worm hunts? 6. ????? I don't even know, maybe 300 Win Mag or maybe a 45-70... Truth be told I could probably just get by with either my 243 or my 32 Special. Filling the freezer with some Blacktail deer or sausage bears at 0-200m isn't really a monumental task in the world of terminal ballistics |

Joshua MayfieldRe: If You Had to Live with Six Rifle CalibersCompletely disregarding availability and cost of ammo and components....17 HMR 22-250 .25-20 Win. .280 AI .300 WM 20 Ga. shotgun 20 gauge because the ballistic potential of 20 gauge slugs is eye popping. If cost and availability are factors then I change the 17 to 22lr, merge the 22-250 and 25-20 into one .243 and add a 45-70 or 35 Whelan. |

Ha ha ha! Hey, I say if a guy loves copper he should shoot copper. I have nothing against it, I just like to start online bar fights about it. |

Lane SalvatoRe: If You Had to Live with Six Rifle CalibersShawn, you like the 257 Bob? I love the Bob! Great whitetail rifle. Too bad they don't chamber more 25 caliber factory ammo, or higher BC ammo. Nathan doesn't like 25's for long range because they don't carry much energy out long, but man they're a pleasure for antelope and deer out to normal ranges. |

I'll swap the other four for unlimited bullet options to load in the '06. What was I thinking six months ago? The summer heat had me addled. |
