mark sucklingHi guys,I just got a few boxes of federal 215 large rifle magnum primers, went to start pressing them and noticed that some of them have a large amount of purple compound inside them (almost full) while others look more like I'm used to, see the shiny anvil etc. I haven't used federal before so I don't know what they normally look like but they don't look like the Winchester, CCI or Remington primers I have used before. I asked one of the old boys at my club, he said it was water proofing...?? |

Bryan WebsterRe: Federal 215 large rifle magnum primersWhen I am working up a load I normally use CCI primers as their cups are stronger and do not show what looks like pressure signs until pressures are there as some softer primers do.That said, I bought 2 cases of 1000 primers each, of Federal match GMM210 and GMM 215 magnum primers and once loads have been found I switch to them and check things. I have not seen the excess propellant as in your photos before on any primers, but it could possibly create a tiny bit more of an error for accuracy as it is just yet another variable to contend with. Personally I would go to the Federal web site and email the photo link to them, asking if they would see an issue there. |

mark sucklingRe: Federal 215 large rifle magnum primersHi guys, for the record, Federal tells me"its just the latex identifier, it will not effect the primers" Hopefully thats the case. |
