Trevor Wilkesgday nathanI wrote a speel about wind cant be buggered to write it all again it didnt post due to no spam code visible so cut the story short I can never get a day with no wind most times its blowing seagulls backwards. Now between 1.30am and 4.30am wind is zero and yes I dont sleep much due to medication, my plan is take a generator and flood light down the range. Do you see any thing that would foil this plan as far as load development goes my loads are good but I feel they could be fine tuned better in a zero wind enviroment. Also another factor is temp as its that time around here that temps are mid 30s to 46 degrees c and night time seems the obvious choice considering the temps at night now are the same as at the time I did most of my load development. Also I dont see myself truddging around in 35to46 degree c hunting so no need to worry about temp related issues with my handloads. Cheers Trev. |

Nathan FosterRe: wind and load testingI think just as long as its legal in your state to shoot centrefire at night. Also make sure the range is a long way off from town as sound can carry a long way at night if its pretty still. Just the normal considerations. If your are using ADI powder, it should show plenty of temp stability at the temp ranges you are quoting. I have seen gains of 100fps in extremely hot weather using ADI (with pressures going up accordingly) but as long as the loads aren't right on max to begin with, it should be fine. On really hot days, If in doubt (about point of impact in very hot weather), drop 1/4 MOA off your dial up before shooting out long. You'll need to make sure there is plenty of light on the target. If you are using an NF scope and utilizing the illumination, try to keep the illumination to a slim profile. I am sure you have already thought about all of this. |
