GrahamHi just wondering about your thoughts on fitting a Gunworks Maxium suppressor to my Remington 308. It has a 24" Truflite S/S barrel which is 21 mm diameter at the muzzle. I don't think I would shorten the barrel.Just want to cut the noise a but as I do a lot of shooting and worry the people around the district Also, I don't see the 7.62x39 in your cartridge knowledge base. Will you be looking at this? Cheers, Graham |

Nathan FosterRe: Suppressor on 308Hi Graham, it sounds like you need a suppressor out of necessity. In my LR rifles book I have highlighted potential problems and dangers in regard to the use of suppressors. Treat your suppressor as a specialized tool and it will be effective. Treat it like a slap on attachment (as is common practice in NZ and the UK) and there may be trouble, whether it be a buggered barrel or in the worst case scenario- an explosion. The 7.62x39 is next on the upload list. The 8mm's will follow, then on to the larger bores. |

im2lazyRe: Suppressor on 308Hi Graham, following on from what Nathan has posted, I have a couple of Gunworks suppressors as well as a Dan Hardy and have found both brands to be great. The point I would bring to your attention is at low scope powers the suppressor will be visible through your scope. I haven't used a Maxium but these will be even worse as they are 50mm from memory. Don't let this put you off, just consider it as part of your decision. 24 inch plus a suppressor is getting pretty long! that's another thing that only you can answer with regard to how much of a advantage/disadvantage it would be if you lopped 3 or 4 inches off. Point better, lighter and sit on the sling better but you will probably lose around 100 f/sec????? I don't think every rifle should have a suppressor but in certain applications they are magic. Let us know which way you go and your results |
