Murray McGehanNathan I am interested in your thoughts as to the suitability of using a pre 75 model Sako L691-4 action for the construction of a project rifle in 7mm Practical. The rifle is currently chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum but this does need rebarrelling. |

Nathan FosterRe: Sako A4 ActionHi Murray, the magazine should be long enough. I have done Practicals on the AV and L series before, should be a photo of an AV in the Practical article and on the site blog. The throat needs to be cut a tad shorter than on the Remingtons due to the slightly shorter mag box (yours should be 92mm). I have not seen any loss in velocity as a result of this. If anything, the shorter COAL allows the case neck more guiding control. The action will need to be trued so you will need to budget for this (it's not a major). One question Murray, does your action have a fixed recoil lug or the cost cutting floating lug (same as the M series Tikka rifles)? If I recall, you have done your own bedding jobs in the past. If your rifle has the floating lug, might pay to give me a phone call just before you start bedding so that we can nail the job. |

Murray McGehanRe: Sako A4 ActionHi Nathan, The rifle has the fixed recoil lug which should make bedding a little easier. While the action is in remarkable condition the barrel does show some signs of throat errosion. Last thing I need is another 30 cal and 7mm is of more interest to me so rebarrelling will be the best solution. |

Nathan FosterRe: Sako A4 ActionOK, should be straight forwards then. |
