Swapping out normal primers for Mag primers

Shane LlewellHi, has anyone swapped out normal primers for Mag primers for the 270 win?? I have heard rule of thumb -10% is fine. |

Jonathan KittermanRe: Swapping out normal primers for Mag primersIs there something you are trying to fix with the primer swap? Do you have a reloading manual?Some powders can't be dropped too much. Viht N165 is one according to my Sierra manual. Post your details for your powder and bullet and maybe someone can look up the published data to see what the swing is. |

Jonathan KittermanRe: Swapping out normal primers for Mag primersMy Sierra #5 shows H4350 starting at 42.8 at 2500fps and stopping at 52.0 and 2900 fps for the 150grain Sierra boat tail #1840 so I think you should be fine with dropping as low as the starting. Their data was with Winchester WLR primers.I looked up the powder equivalents from http://www.adi-powders.com.au/handloaders/equivalents.asp |

Mike DavisRe: Swapping out normal primers for Mag primersI only use mag primers in the .270 always have as older manuals about 50% call for it the others dont. AR2213sc or the hogdgon equivilent are my powders of choice. |

Shane LlewellRe: Swapping out normal primers for Mag primersJust ran up a load, Hornady SST 130gn 43gns 2208 & Winchester large rifle mag primers, shooting out of my Winchester XPR in 270, just over 1 MOA at 100m, no pressure problems or misshapen primer. |
