Brendon Greig

Hi everyone my reloading experience is limited and I understand that all variations make a difference in the book series Nathan mentions changing primers from magnum to standard primers I have a Remington 700 SPS with a 26 inch barrel in 7mm rem mag I am using federal magnum primers ADI2217 powder and hornady 162 EDLM projectiles I am getting reasonable accuracy but was wondering what difference would be going to standard primers wanting to know for knowledge more than anything as happy with the way it is shooting at the moment

I think it changes the way (speed) the powder in the case ignites. I'm sure that its in Nathan's reloading book.

Re: Primers
I don't load 7RM Brendon but when Nathan & l first discussed reloading my Rem 300wm (new cal to me at the time) he advised using the Fed 210 match gold & 2217. This was to aid in controlling burn rates in turn keeping the ES tight (inside 10fps).

l have never bothered trying Mag primers in that rifle with this or 2213sc in proj weights from 168>215 as it has given excellent results with accuracy & velocity. l know people chasing top velocites swear by them and at times in smaller non magnums.
In a couple of wsm's l load for we have run mag primers due to the shorter case but if they where mine it would be interesting to test them with the 210's.

Re: Primers
Hi Brendon, when I ran initial tests on your rifle, I used 210 primers. If you want to try the 180gr bullet, I believe the 210 will really come more into its own as your charge rates will be quite low.

Still waiting for your return visit. Please arrange this when you can.

Re: Primers
You sure have me curious on this one!

Shooting Savage 111 in 7mm Rem Mag. 24" barrel.
I'm usually using RL26 shooting 150gr. Nosler ABLR.
Using Fed 215 primer.

My issue ( of many) is the tempreture can be 60 degrees F to 15 degrees F.
Shot doe this year with 7mm-08AI in 18 degrees F.

With lighter bullets i usually use RL19 or RL23.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Re: Primers
Hi Kenneth, at 24" of barrel and radical temps, I would use a magnum primer.

Do what works, that's the main thing.
