Marcos GarcíaHi everyoneI have to lap the barrel of my Remington 700, that I bought recently. I have all the necessary items except Scoth-Brite abrasives, I can not buy them anywhere in my area, I can not even buy them online, all I've seen were packages with many units. The only ones that I have found are Wolfcraft poly pads, but their colors do not correspond with Scoth-Brite brand. Wolfcraft uses this colors: Green - 280 grit Maroon - 360 grit Gray - 800 grit Has anyone experience with these abrasives? Will you use green pad to lap the barrel? Thank you so much. All the best. |

Grant LovelockRe: Scoth-Brite padsThey are a 3M product..... I thought they were available most places..... maybe search for 3M first then ScotchBrite? |

Andrew MurrayRe: Scoth-Brite padsHi Marcos,This thread may help you make a comparison. Keep in mind that the pads will not be this level of grit for long... there is a reason scotch brite pads don't come with a grit rating but rather a finish rating... http://www.ballreviews.com/miscellaneous/scotch-brite-pads-grits-t125883.0.html Cheers mate. |

Marcos GarcíaRe: Scoth-Brite padsHello Grant, I searched them as a 3M product, I live in a small city, the stores that I visited did not have this one in particular. I have seen them in a few online stores, but they come in a box that contains many units.Andrew, you've helped me clarify my knowledge, thanks for that link, I think I'll buy the maroon Wolfcraft pad. Thanks for helping me guys. |

Alvaro PiquerasRe: Scoth-Brite padsHi Marcos.I assume you are from Spain based on your reply to the topic about insurance for hunting in Spain. Let me know where are you located to try to help you. I sourced the 3M pads after a intense search in a store in San Sebastian de los Reyes (Madrid). They will probably sell online or maybe will be able to attend your order and ship to you. Un saludo! |

Bryan WebsterRe: Scoth-Brite padsTry using Google to search for them. I simply entered "3M Scotch Brite Pads"into my browser's address window and found them on Amazon.ca as well as Amazon.com. In addition there were many other commercial outlets listed as well. |

Marcos GarcíaRe: Scoth-Brite padsMike, certainly I has not searched in automotive stores, it may be a good idea, thanks!Hi Alvaro, Nice to meet you! I read some of your posts some time ago. You have given me a joy, it seems that there are not many Spanish in this forum, it's a pity. I am now in Cuenca, that sounds good, could you tell me the name of the store where you found the 3M pads? Muchas Gracias! Un Saludo! |

John D. HaysRe: Scotch-Brite padsNathan,What colors does Marcos need? |
@ 11:44 am (GMT) |
Nathan FosterRe: Scoth-Brite padsHi John, those three colors would cover every need. The price is a bit stiff though. Nevertheless, the pads could be made to last long enough to see out a barrel. |

Nathan FosterRe: Scoth-Brite padsI should add, there will always be some confusion between brands, given grits and also grit finish descriptions. Within our local stainless industry, we use a maroon wheel to create what we call a 240 grit dairy finish. In the old days, we used a green wheel but with bobbin grease. Obviously, speed / RPM and lubes will effect any finish. Further to this, the unitized rolocs discs use similar colors but are harsher in action, the maroon 3M roloc is quite harsh, leaves visible scratch marks.Of the pads, the maroon should in theory be similar from brand to brand. But I have noticed some differences and especially with the grey pads. Green also comes in different grades and weave thicknesses. If in doubt, it is better to adopt a maroon 360 grit than a green 240 grit. There is often a risk of the green pad being closer to 180 grit, so it can be best to avoid it. I hope that helps a bit. |

John D Hays - New MexicoRe: Scotch-Brite padsMarcos,If you are really stuck for these pads I can mail you three from USA to Spain. I have quite a few of them here and they are mostly air so they dont weigh much. I checked postage rates. Of course, the overseas mail is a little slow. |

Marcos GarcíaRe: Scoth-Brite padsThanks Nathan, your explanation has helped me to better understand the relationship between grits and grit finish, colors and manufacturers, it is certainly a bit confusing.John, heartfelt thanks you for your proposal, but in the end, after an intense search, I just found an online store that has 3M pads available and can send them to me. I just have bought them and I hope they will arrive home on Thursday. Thank you everyone for your kind advice. I really appreciate it and I can not express how much I feel thankful with my limited English. All the best |
