Bergara B14 - any experiences?

Hi,

Apologies if this subject has ben raised before - I was unable to find any relevant posts.

Does anyone have any experience with the Bergara B14 range of rifles. I'm looking for a 7mm Rem mag in the Ridge model (#5 contour barrel). I can't find many reviews of this particular model and Bergaras are pretty scarce her in SA. The promise of a "better" Remington 700 is what's got me interested.

Cheers

I have not experience with complete rifle, but I made custom 308Win on B14.And it really better rem 700, better material, better machining and geometry. If I can compare, in quality it is close to tikka.

Hi Geoff, the rifles I have seen so far have been very good. The hole spacing and footprint allows them to be fitted with aftermarket M700 stocks which is a boon. A heftier stock can make a difference to the standard models, helping to shrink groups down. It would be nice to see stainless and left hand options but perhaps this is just a matter of time.

Thanks Nathan - much appreciated. Our hunting conditions are normally dry so stainless isn’t a deal breaker but an upgraded stock would be on the cards.

Re: Bergara B14 - any experiences?
I just (last week) picked up a B-14 Ridge in 6.5 CM so these are my very initial impressions.

The good:
It's nicely built and as was mentioned the R700 footprint is nice. I like the #5 barrel contour, a little heavier but nice. The action is really smooth and the trigger is pretty nice, set at 2.1 lbs from the factory.

The bad:
The throat is very deep on it, so if you hand load don't expect to get anywhere near the lands and stay within the magazine. This is kind of a pet-peeve of mine so I'm not sure where I'm going to go with this rifle yet. Hopefully I can find a bullet combo that doesn't mind a jump.

That's really it for now, I only have about 35 rounds down the tube, so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks Shoe - very useful info. I'm looking at a 7mm Rem Mag so the throat issue is a concern. Possibly an AICS bottom metal & mag conversion on the cards?

Cheers
