John D. Hays - New MexicoRe: Global Rifle price differencesInteresting topic, Bryan. Regulation and economy of scale will probably dictate the supply and demand on most firearms. Shipping costs, etc. are subsidiary to these factors. The Cabelas Remington 700 Varmint is the ADL version for $450 USD. This is the super budget version with poor stock, with a $50 discount. A more standard model would be the Remington Model 700 SPS Varmint Bolt-Action Rifle for $719 USD or the stainless steel SPS for $919 USD. This latter has a fluted barrel, which my custom gunsmiths here at ScoreHigh frown upon as unnaturally deforming the bore. Bryan, I would be interested in comparing the international prices of the 700 SPS Varmint here for $719 USD. BTW, my 700 Sendero came with a monster tool gouge of the crown straight from the factory. Caveat emptor with todays Remington quality control. I was replacing the barrel anyway so it was no inconvenience, but . . . |

JOHN HAYSRe: Global Rifle price differencesOkay, guys, then let's do best price in USA of the Remington 700 SPS SS 7mm Mag, Stainless Steel. This is for sale on Bud's Gun Shop online for $616 USD, cash discount price. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/97271/Remington+700+SPS+SS+7mm+Mag%2C+Stainless+Steel Note: Bud's can be real dicks if you want a refund or return or anything out of the ordinary, a very "fuck off" ethos, but if you stick with the program you can get fine prices, currently no taxes, and quick and usually free shipping. They also have a very simple 90-day layaway program with 20% down. Using XE.com, I calculate this $616 USD price is about: 526 EUR 466 GBP 809 CAD 832 AUD 910 NZD So, what does this specific firearm go for in your neighborhood? |

John D. Hays - New MexicoRe: Global Rifle price differencesSorry. In the interest of wider firearm data, the rifle I have quoted above is NOT the previously mentioned Varmint-barreled Remington 700 SPS.It is a specific model as noted in the Bud's link. |

Cor NepgenRe: Global Rifle price differencesHi Everyone,In South Africa, the rifle in the link (in different caliber) is currently sale for ZAR 11 500 from Safari and Outdoor. They are the biggest firearm shop in the Western cape region and perhaps the country. The varmint barrel is closer to ZAR 18 500. So that would be USD 872 for the SPS and USD 1402 for the Varmint |

John D. Hays - New MexicoRe: Global Rifle price differencesWell, I have just traded a big bunch of computer work for this new rifle:Remington 700 SENDERO SFII 25-06 26" in stainless, with an equivalent cost of $1100 USD here locally. Now I am not really interested in another 25-06, but have plans to replace the barrel, etc. to make this a 35 Whelen AI. This is going to take awhile before I can come up with the scratch for blueprinting and rebarreling, but Nathan has given me a hunger to try this round. Big thanks to his writings and videos for keeping me engaged in a fascinating endeavor. Kudos, Nathan. |
