Chris CookCan anyone shed some light on how much of an affect a bipod clamp secured with four Allen wrench screws on the barrel of a .30-06 may have on trajectory? Im specifically just trying to figure out a number of inches in drop etc. at 50, 100, 200 yards. You can guess why Im asking Im sure. Thank you in advance for any answers.Chris |

Hamish GibbsRe: Affect of a bipod clamped onto a barrel of .30-06Hi Chris unless I've misunderstood you're question I think you will find such an attachment will have an affect on accuracy not trajectory and it wouldn't be my first pick if I was trying to shoot accurately.Have a dive into the shop on this site, get yourself the Practical Guide to Long Range Hunting Rifles for Christmas, not just rifles but plenty of other good stuff in that book. Promise you won't regret it! |

Nathan FosterRe: Affect of a bipod clamped onto a barrel of .30-06Hi Chris, as Hamish said, accuracy is the problem, not trajectory. You have some fundamental misunderstandings of harmonics that you need to work through if you want to achieve success.Regarding trajectory and in the simplest of terms, the trajectory will differ as the temperature of the barrel changes and depending on how the rifle is held (force loading) and also the density of the terrain the bipod is resting on. With such a device, there is little consistency. There is a lot of this type of stuff coming out of China these days. A guy gets an idea, finds someone to make it for him cheap. Unfortunately, these products are not designed to help you, they are designed to make money for the seller. Thanks for the kind words about the books guys. Much appreciated. |

Ed SybertRe: Affect of a bipod clamped onto a barrel of .30-06A few years ago I competed in some "tactical" matches at a local rifle club. The course of fire made the use of a bipod attractive. But in preparation, I found I could not rely of zeros, especially at extended ranges, shooting from the bipod. I even experimented by placing a piece of closed cell foam on the ground to rest the bipod on. Still no joy. So, I made a small "sand" bag, actually filled with BB sized plastic beads. It has a strap that can slip over the barrel, making it easy to collect up with the rifle when moving quickly to the next station during a timed exercise. It worked very well. -Ed |
