Luke HoldstockHey guys, Im new to the forum and thanks to Nathans books as a Xmas present, have caught the bug and burned the last coupe months researching guns and calibers (would love a Practical but funds not permitting at this time). Ive been a long time hunter though not really a gun but... my trusty Tikka 270 always did everything I asked it.Ive now purchased a new Christiansen Arms Mesa in 7mm RM, 24 1:9 brl. After reading the books Im planning to start with the 160TMK and H4831sc, however am thinking I would like to work up some higher velocity rounds for deer hunting. Primary objective would be flat shooting for whitetails at less than 600 yards. Any suggestions for lighter bullets ... hoping to obtain 3300+ fps. Im relatively new to this so if Im wasting my time and should just stick with the 3000fps 160 Ill accept that as feedback. Thanks. |

Mike RRe: High velocity 7mm RM loadsReal high performing you want to try Reloder 23,26. Struggle to get those in Australia though can barely get Reloder 17 most times. Best ability is availability. |

Paul LevermanRe: High velocity 7mm RM loadsWelcome, Luke.Probably the best place to start is in the Knowledge Base (KB). There you will find the info about which bullets will handle game sizes vs. velocities. All sorts of good reading. Nothing wrong with asking here. Everyone will help if they can, there's a lot of 7mm fans here. |

Luke HoldstockRe: High velocity 7mm RM loadsThanks guys,Nathans books lead me to the 160 TMK and the Hornady 162, either of those will be my primary load (was leaning towards the TMK). The book also suggested H4831sc was better for shorter barrels so was leaning towards that with the 24" barrel... though would also be happy with the H1000. I haven't seen anything in the book or on the website (maybe my search skills suck) about lighter 7mm bullets at higher velocity (likely b/c the lose benefit after 600yrds due to lower BC) so wanted to check in on that here. This round would be for smaller game at <600. If no one is using them successfully I may just stick with the above mentioned 160/2 gr bullets. I am in Canada and have access to the Reloader powders. |
