Randy LeunissenAll,I have a VZ24 action that has been in my basement for quite awhile and it is time to give it a new role in life.. I have been thinking of a 35 Whelen build, but my concern is magazine well length. COAL for 30-06 & family is a book length of 3.340". My reloads are typically longer in my 06 (usually find max and back off 20 thou or so). I know the Whelen will mostly use shorter bullets (such as 250 RN) and high BC bullets not as typical. My concern being the original 8MM COAL is 3.250"and I fear I will have issues with COAL for my loads if I go this route. Anyone have any experience or input with M98 builds using longer cartridges? Will aftermarket market mag well or will altercations be required to original mag well? Thanks Randy |

Nathan FosterRe: VZ24 options in buildHi Randy, there are minor differences in some of these magazines to the tune of 80 thou. Could you please get a caliper reading of the exact internal mag length so that I can advise. |

Randy LeunissenRe: VZ24 options in buildHello Nathan,I measure 3.300". Measured from bottom (trigger guard side). Took multiple readings 3.299.5 to 3.307". I also measured a 30-06 reload that I use in my M700 bdl-dm. It was a 180grain fail safe and measured 3.355". This round clearly would not feed in this well. Thank you sir. Randy |
