Anders ÖsterbergHello long time ...I did a depth tune the other day with amazing result. I have done this before but with no real luck . I watched the Erik Cortina video on chasing the lands and noted that I have done it wrong , to big increments, 0.2-0.5 milimeters. Erik recommended 0.003 inch increments (0.075mm) https://youtu.be/9FKq8Jj8YEI I had last year tested the Barnes Matchburner 155gr in a ocw test , but I didn't do a dept tune , just powdercharge and ended up with 44.5gr N140 , but it didn't shoot so well , just round 1 moa so I discharged it.. Now I started the depth tune at 71.5mm with the 44.5 load and did 0.1mm increments shorter . I had all cartridges loaded long and had the press with me at the shootingbench. The groups starts from left to right and down left to right. The numbers are ogival compare-tool . First I just shot 2 shots, no luck ..than 4 shots , very nice..But with the bad groups on each side I didn't bother..., number 3 , 3 shots and the rest 4 shots . Number 4-6 looking good but I was interested in if I could get better . The day after I was at it again... This time wit a new setup with a dail-watch to get exact readings. This time I begin between nr 5-6 of the first target and did 0.06milimeter steps . All 3shot groups It went extremely well this time , I will pick the nr 4 group to be in the middle of the node . It's really amazing how well it worked. Any load is tuneable Erik says ... And I agree, I hade ruled this load out ... , and now its the most accurate load I have ever experienced. And that with a stock Tikka T3x 308win receiver and barrel😎 I have a bedded laminated stock of my own design . |

Warwick MarflittRe: OAL depth tuneWell done Anders and thanks for sharing your results..... Investing time in load development and finding out what the barrel likes and then using the recipe to its best effect......makes sence and is a no brainer really..... |
