Scott ParrGreetings!I recently acquired a budget borescope (Teslong), which I know is not great, but even the low resolution of this camera shows FAR more then I was ever able to see before. I have a Ruger Number 1 chambered in 30-06 that I was planning on trying to accurize. Although I cleaned the bore quite thoroughly with Sweets, the camera showed there was still quite a bit of copper on the lands, especially near the muzzle. The past couple of days I have been working on it with Bore Tech Eliminator and their CU+2 Copper remover, which has removed quite a bit more, but there is still a stubborn spot of copper about an inch or so from the crown. I was thinking of hand lapping the bore next, but should I continue battling the copper until it is completely gone first? Also, while I am pretty impressed with these Bore Tech products, if anyone has suggestions for something better to remove copper I would love to hear it! Thanks! Respectfully, Scott |

Rob BirdRe: Last bit of Copper--Keep cleaning or lap?If you do Nathan's suggested bore polishing with Autosol or the like, it'll probably take those last stubborn bits out. |

Nathan FosterRe: Last bit of Copper--Keep cleaning or lap?Hi Scott, just keep going with the cleaning. Use a good stout bronze brush. When a bore is very stubborn, there comes a point where no brand offers a miracle cure. The brands listed above are good, but each hit their limits on very stubborn bores. All you can do is scrub and soak, coming back very half hour to an hour or so, reapplying solvent etc. That's just the way it is sometimes. Once its all clear, then set about whatever polishing / lapping you want to do. All the best. |
