Ricardo LaborinGents,There's a couple of rebarreling projects to be undertaken in 2022, both on Rem 700 (LA and SA respectively). Gunsmithing prowess in Mexico is fairly low and sending the receiver to the US to be rebarreled is not feasible......Enter these already threaded, chambered, ready to roll type of barrels, helping me circumvent any potential f** up from additional hands here. Have any of you Experience and/or strong opinions about this? Ps: 1) .308 Win 22", 1-10", Sendero Fluted Contour 2) 7mmRM 26", 1-9", Factory Rem Magnum Contour Thanking you in advance. Saludos, Ricardo. |

Nathan FosterRe: Qualified Opinion & Experience with RemAge / Shilen Alternut BarrelsHi Ricardo, you might as well just give it a try. The main concern is the difference in thread dimensions. If the thread is very loose, it will be up to the lock nut to keep everything secure with regards to vibrations and how these affect accuracy. Experience leads me to suggest that if the threads are a bit loose with this type of system, bedding ahead of the barrel nut by one or two inches will normally tame down vibrational (particularly double grouping) issues. There are other factors that some might want to consider but its really all moot within the context of your situation. Go ahead, then make it work. |

Ricardo LaborinRe: Qualified Opinion & Experience with RemAge / Shilen Alternut BarrelsSay no more Messr Foster, will do the requisite "clicks" to order the tubes and will report back. On both counts, will be up to mid range hunting (max 500mts).Saludos, RLS. |

Joshua MayfieldRe: Qualified Opinion & Experience with RemAge / Shilen Alternut BarrelsRicardo, I've been studying some of the same merchandise and services lately. Without bogging down in all the details, I ordered a 26" stainless barrel from McGowan today. It will be threaded for a large shank Savage action and will eventually be chambered for .300 Win Mag with the Foster-Manson reamer. This is my first time down the custom barrel road. I'll be interested to see how your orders turn out. May we both be pleasantly impressed... good luck. |

David LenziRe: Qualified Opinion & Experience with RemAge / Shilen Alternut BarrelsI have a KRG SOTIC that I bought a few years back - since re-barreled to 6mm Creed as a strictly target gun. Not quite apples to apple, as its essentially an American made TRG running a barrel nut setup. Its a chassis gun, three action screws, no bedding. Its a consistent rifle, at least. No problems staying on an 8 plate at 800 yds with light/mild winds (off a bipod, no less dont tell Nathan!). As long as you get a good barrel to receiver fit, youll be all right. You might also consider a WTO switch lug. |

Ricardo LaborinRe: Qualified Opinion & Experience with RemAge / Shilen Alternut BarrelsI'm, getting jammed on the recoil lug thickness thing. Shilen states from .18 to .25 in thick.- What's the Rem 700 factory thickness? - Will a .25 thick recoil lug work with the HS Precision PSV 096 & PSS 010 lug slots? Thanks in advance. |

Nathan FosterRe: Qualified Opinion & Experience with RemAge / Shilen Alternut BarrelsHi Ricardo, just ignore it, it is meaningless info regarding your project. The factory lugs run around .190". The HS stock has a large lug recess to accommodate both factory as well as thicker aftermarket lugs. The tolerance within the the stock is (at least theoretically) on the barrel side of the lug (gap is ahead of the front face of the lug). In other words and again in theory, there should be no gap in the stock, between the rear face of the recoil lug and the recoil lug rebate in the stock. You may be able to see how this looks, by observing my now very old bedding vids on youtube (HS Precision stock). |
