Jared BreinganJust wondering what you guys would recommend for filling the butt of my plastic fantastic stock, would the forend stabiliser product work? Thanks |

Nathan FosterRe: Filling the butt of my synthetic stockHi Jared, the problem is trying to key into the butt for the stabilizer. It would also be a very heavy fill, up towards a couple of pound at a guess. A better option is to use a basic expanding foam in aerosol form. There are two types, one that sets soft like polystyrene, the other sets hard. Use the hard setting foam.Adhesion is not great but the foam expands to a tight fit for a mechanical lock. If you are careful, you can go in through a swivel hole so long as expanding gases (not foam) can escape. |

Kenney CrockettRe: Filling the butt of my synthetic stockExcuse my ignorance but can I ask why one would do this?On a side note I think the but makes a good place for a small survival kit. You can get a blanket in there! ;) |

David BathRe: Filling the butt of my synthetic stockI guess you could do it to increase weight or change balance a bit. I filled mine with aerosol expanda-foam just to stop it sounding hollow when bumped/tapped. Survival items is a great idea just make sure you carry the screwdriver to remove the recoil pad :) ............. really need to get a new computer, typing on a phone is painful |

Wayne WoodardRe: Filling the butt of my synthetic stockI added a bit of weight for balance and filled with silastic. Just have to add it in layers so it will dry. |

Nathan FosterRe: Filling the butt of my synthetic stockHi Kenney, that is not an ignorant question- its quite valid.Filling can help reduce vibrational noise if the stock is accidentally bumped during stalking. It can in some cases also help add strength to the pistol grip on weak stock rifle designs. The sporting variant of the Sako TRG is a good example, the recoil of the .338 Lapua cartridge can be too much for the plastic stock. A polymer or epoxy fill can help add strength. Jared, you could use our Stabilizer with filler spheres (basically plastic balls) but again, I would suggest expanding hard foam as a simple / fast fix. It is a bit of a pity that this hollow cavity is wasted. Would make a good place to keep a pull through handy as was done in the past. |

Jared BreinganRe: Filling the butt of my synthetic stockThank you very much for the replies. My reasons were a bit of a mixture, to get rid of the hollow sound, add a bit of weight and maybe help with a bit of strength. I do like the idea of a storage place, maybe could still leave a bit of space at the back to store something. Thanks |
