Hi to all

Does anybody know anything about " Lil Gun" powder marketed by Hogden

I read a fleeting reference to this powder which described it as " Hornady's superperformance powder marketed by Hogden ???

Is this the powder that has same burning rate as AR 2213SC but has smaller Granual Size ???

Hi Les, that's a dangerous reference. Odd for somebody to have said this. The burn rate basically bridges the gap between the ultra fast shotgun powders and fast rifle / magnum pistol powders. This powder was designed for the .410 shot gun. A good charge of this in a .30-06 etc would blow the action apart.

it has uses in .22 hornet and seems to have breathed life into the old cartridge. I use it in .410 where it is great and also use it in my 7.62x39mm but you wont find load data for it for that use...I did alot of digging and got some help from an Aussie chap to work out loads for that use and are happy with results ( I bought tin of lilgun and tin of 296 win for .410 then realized I would be shooting for years at 14ish grains per shot so found other use for lilgun thus the x39 usage)

Hi to all
Thanks Nathan and Mike

In the June issue of " Sporting Shooter " (Australian Magazine ) Nick Harvey has an article relating to the .17 hornet -- on page 34 r.h. column Nick mentions "Lil Gun " powder as suitable for that calibre, describing it as a superformance powder developed by hornady -- having read the article again and in full -- I have obviously grabbed the goose by the neck again in relation to Lil Gun powder

Well then, first off- we have got to cut a guy a bit of slack after how many years helping shooters. Last of the old breed huh.

A potentially dangerous slip but possibly also no potential danger as there is no load data for Lil Gun in high power etc. Initial investigations into loads quickly show where this powder sits and how it is to be used. I think you would have drawn the same conclusion without me if you had pursued it.

Re: Hogden Lil Gun powder
G,day Nathan

Yes - I had never heard of this powder at all before - None of my reloading references mention it -- so I assumed it was perhaps new to the marketplace -- which is why I asked about it on this forum.

I,d hate to give Nick any headaches, due to my interpretation of his words
