Chris McKoyJust finished my new shorty build, very happy with the results :) Not for everyone, but for the type of hunting we are doing (sub 650m) it's perfect. -Trued and blueprinted Remington 700 action -Truflite ultramatch barrel in .308 tight, 10 inches -1/10 twist -SSRNZ 2 baffle suppressor no expansion chamber, 100% forward of muzzle -(modular, up to 5 baffles if required) -MDS LSS Chassis, mil spec coated dark earth -Timney trigger set at 1.5lb -Atlas bipod -Magpul stock and grip -10 round AI mag -Sightron S3 5-25x The most successful load, and the one I hunt with, is a 150gr SST with 143.5 grains of Vihtavuori N530. This load is a little warm at 2650fps. Hot load is 44.5 grain, 2750fps, only good if you don't mind sticky bolt and onetime use brass. Effective accurate range is 650m, although I'll be gong shooting to a 1000m this coming weekend and with a bit of luck, might get some hits. |

Nathan FosterRe: Something a bit different :)Hi Chris, please make sure that suppressor gets a regular clean and gets binned after a period of use. You are using a lot of powder and some of this will end up unburnt in the suppressor. If left, the suppressor will rupture and being close to your face, injury will be severe. The same goes for the inevitable metal fatigue in the suppressor.Carbon caking may also be severe so watch for changes in chamber dimensions that may jack up pressures during shooting sessions. |

jasonRe: Something a bit different :)is it cheaper if you only buy 1/4 of a barrel. haha just pulling your leg!everyone likes different things. are the atlas really more stable than the harris? |

Chris McKoyRe: Something a bit different :)It is if you sell the other 24 inches ;)I've only had the atlas for a few days and this is the first rifle it's been on, I have to say that I'm very impressed, personally I wouldn't buy anything else now. Cost is a pretty big factor though, at 400+ for a bipod...buy once cry once perhaps. Nathan, yes well aware of the pressures/dangers etc. We put 200 rounds through one in 2 minutes the other week using a 300 win mag, they have been deliberately over engineered. The baffles themselves are quite literately a 1 minute job to swap out if required. |
