Duracoat paint in Australia

Hello all, I am planning on taping and painting my new shiny True flite barrel and have spent considerable time trying to match the colour of dry grass in the photo that I posted holding the deer I shot. After a couple of hours nI think I found a match! CADPAT BROWN - joy! only to find (or not find) anyone who sells duracoat in Australia. Lauer weaponry will not post to Aus. Does anyone know of any way to get this stuff in Aus?
I may have to go into the local auto paint shop and see if they can mix up something similar? Not sure. I wanted to use an epoxy paint for at least the first layer and then enamel on top... or if I can get it, epoxy for all the colours... but not too hopeful at present.

Hi Mike,

Sounds interesting.
Just a thought but what about using red wine and white wine labels for an alternating camo look ? LOL

Thanks Thomas, I saw that. I was hoping for something in Aus before I try to get it sent over from NZ. I am thinking that it's listed as dangerous goods and will make postage difficult.

Hi Mike, you will find that you don't need an epoxy for tape and paint. I have had zero failures since we started doing this a few years ago.

Yes, head for the auto body shop. Enamel- GP 10 sheen. Hopefully the book 3 instructions are relatively straight forwards.

Thanks Nathan, yep instructions in the book are good. I have had some experience in spraying car bumpers and preparing boeing 737's for paint so I should be able to bumble through. I do like the idea that you can just pull it all off if it goes south. For anyone interested I found these 'tubes showing different methods of achieving a camo scheme - wrapping the stock with twine and bands whilst layering on the different colours. I'm not too confident on painting a scheme free hand. I especially like the grass camo

Oh and Nathan, is that GP 10 sheen a satin finish or matt? In my mind gloss would wear better but is obviously too reflective, and matt paint is rougher (good grip) and would wear faster but great for low reflection. I'm not concerned with having to do touchups myself. But s sensible medium would be good I guess.
BTW this will be a little while off, I still have to get the barrel fitted and the new bedding job done, but I like to get my plan hashed out before time.

Those vids will be useful for a bit of creativity. Very good.

GP10 is flat. You have to get your head around the fact that you are creating a matrix Mike. Its not the same as painting wood or steel, the cloth binds with the paint- it is a much, much tougher paint finish. Just make sure the first layer is done by hand, not aerosol etc. I am sure I have put all of this in the book?

Re: Duracoat paint in Australia
Yes Nathan, just checked again you wrote something like hand paint or spray with light coats to allow for the solvents to flash off or you'll be stuck with a sticky rifle for weeks.

Re: Duracoat paint in Australia
I do my first layer or layers by hand. Once it is built up in the cloth, I then move to the air brush (you may wish to use cans).

Re: Duracoat paint in Australia
Sounds like it is similar to fiberglassing. Wetting out all the fibres, stippling in the paint with the brush so all the fibers get soaked. Same same but different. Hopefully drive down to Brisbane this week to get the barrel chambered, crowned and fitted. BTW the barrel snuck past customs without getting seized! Woohoo.
