Neal AndrewsIn Texas wild pigs are a real problem. You can kill them year around day or night. I have killed them with 22LR - 338 win. mag. and about every thing inbetween .But I have settled on the 338 Federal. 200 gr. Fusion Ammo. I never take head shots. Heart lung, liver ,and this round works very well on 125 lbs. and up 30 yards is the longest distance before they drop. On 5 out of 5 largest being 300 lbs. Shot one last night about 175 lb. had to rush my shot hit it right side mid rib cage exit left side just before the hip .It ran about 20 yards layed down and died in apx. 1minute. The shot was 110 long steps . And Im long legged. |

Nathan FosterRe: 338 Federal + pigsIts still going to be a wee while before I have the .338 research up online. Thanks for sharing in the interim. If you get a chance, please try the 200 grain SST and also as Trevor said, would be great to see some photos, including autopsy pics. |

Lee MinhinnickRe: 338 Federal + pigsSeen a few you tube videos of pigs been hunted in the states and looks like a lot of fun. Shot a few big pigs and haven't had any get away. Most of them where shot with a 308 and think this is all is needed for New Zealand pigs but have seen some monsters in photos from the states. The post interested me because off a pet dream of building a 358win in scout rifle project with the ten other dream rifles projects. |
