Chris McKoyHi all,Just wondering if anybody has any reloading data for the .510 whisper? I'm building it now designed to shoot the 750 grain AMAX - looking for a workable 1000m load. Many thanks :) Chris |

Nathan FosterRe: New rifle build - reloading data required pleaseI have not done any work with this yet sorry Chris. Interesting though, it is not a whole bunch different to the .50/70 that came after the .52 caliber service rifles of old. A certain amount of re-inventing the wheel to be sure- albeit with better ballistics. Wider bores can be much more effective (killing) than small bores at these velocities in the absence of bullet expansion. Hence why we never saw a .30/70.Suggested burn rates are H110 / AR 2205 and I suppose H4198 / AR 2207 would be OK at the slower end (again similar to the old cartridges with modern powder). If you cannot find data, you may simply have to fill the case to 75% capacity and get some loads over the chrony. The case to bore ratio will prevent you from being able to blow up the rifle. |

Chris McKoyRe: New rifle build - reloading data required pleaseCheers for the advice on powder Nathan, should give me a good starting point - info on this round seems to be pretty sparse, although as an interesting project the whisper looks to have great potential. I'm hoping I can use it on game safely, my 50BMG punches half inch holes through things with no expansion (aside from being way too heavy and complete overkill even for those armoured deer).Cheers Chris |
