ACR RESQLINK PERSONAL LOCATING BEACON

Bob Mavin

G'day all

I'm considering buying a ACR RESQLINK PERSONAL LOCATING BEACON.

Due to the amount of years I've spent in the back blocks, mostly alone. The law of averages say its only a matter of time before something could go wrong.

No phone reception to make sure my wife doesn't sell my rifles for what I told her they cost me!!!!

Any comments?
Cheers
Bob

Mate looks like the go. As someone in the business of looking after sick people, time is of the essence. These GPS units can mean you're picked up within an hour - depending on the locale of the closest rescue chopper. If you're bleeding out from an open fracture or accidental cut, this thing will save your life. Highly recommend. Also get yourself a proper tourniquet and learn how to use it. A belt will not suffice. You'll likely never use either, but god knows... www.Tacmed.com.au have a good range of stuff and they also run GSW (gun shot wound) courses aimed at the everyday person.

Hi Bob
During my last couple of winter trout fishing trips to lake Taupo I have run in to the same guy every year. As an older gentleman ( he's in his late 70s ) he reckons his PLB is one of the best investments he has made in a life time of hunting, fishing and general outdoors stuff, mostly on his own.
He says his wife now won't let him out the door with out one.
Hope he never needs to use it as he is a real nice guy with heaps of stories.

Bob, I use the SPOT for all my backcountry solo trips. Best feature is I can send my wife a txt telling her I'm "OK" each day. Makes her feel connected and allows me to spend more time chasing elk and deer. Never have used the rescue button but my firefighter buddies in Wyoming have saved several snowmobilers over the years thanks to it.

I've been using the mcmurdo fastfind for the last 4 odd years, I wouldn't even know it's on my knife belt.
