Hi guys, Hope everyone had a good Chrissy and new year.
This has probably been discussed but I couldn't find any reference to it.
How compressed can a load be compressed and what are the concerns. Do or dont's? Thanks.

Re: compressed loads
ive had compressed loads in the .223 quite often. 27gr AR2208 behind a 55gn bullet. i think as long as your not creating enough resistance to overcome your neck tension and push the bullet back out your good to go.

Re: compressed loads
Much like was said... it's my understanding you can seat the compressed load then measure it again later to see if it's worked it's way out by itself.
If these are test loads and your close to the lands keep in mind if there hard to seat now there only going to get harder if you plan on playing with seating depth later on.
If your not using a dropper tube, from memory I got an extra grain in by using one. (223).

Re: compressed loads
From what I understand, you can run the risk of changing the burn speed of the powder if the granules are crushed/powdered. If the powder gets crushed into a finer granule, it may burn faster due to the greater surface area. Sometimes it may not need to be a "compressed" load by just pouring the powder from a height and trickling it in. the granules rearrange better and no compression as such takes place. I got this off Nathan for loading my 308W.

Re: compressed loads
Thanks fellas. Using a drop tube but definitely crunching up powder on max loads. Using 80gr Amax is why.

Re: compressed loads
What loads you running with the amaxs? I'm running 24.6 AR2208 with them for 2906fps.

Re: compressed loads
I'm getting reasonable accuracy with 22.6gr AR2206h at about 2730fps and may have another at 24gr at 2900fps. The 24gr is quite compressed and I had a pierced primer. These at 15thou off lands. Problem is my max COAL is only 62.1mm. ADI brass.

Re: compressed loads
24.5grn AR2206h behind a 50-55grn pill is my "go to" load for my zastava.223.not too hot and very accurate
Ive gone a wee bit hotter 25.2 with 50grn ttsx but never seen the need to push it any more
not compressed by any means
