Thomas PavelkaPicked up a couple of boxes of Federal Trophy Bonded ammo for the 06. Stuff looks nasty. Nickle plated cases and bullets. Wondering if the nickle is a good thing for the rifling since it's harder than copper? |

Jim MoseleyRe: Nickle Plated Cases and BulletsI've reloaded many nickel plated cases by Winchester. Never seen a nickel plated bullet! |

Mike DavisRe: Nickle Plated Cases and Bulletsearly .303 projectiles were nickle plated monsters 220 grn I think they were...as for barrel nothing a good cleaning wont get rid of.I found nickle cases harder than hobs of hell when reloading them. |

Nathan FosterRe: Nickle Plated Cases and BulletsWe were still shooting Nickle .303 right up to the early 90's (Mk.7).I have never really given it a thought sorry Thomas, I just shoot it. The gilding layer is quite light. Just there for corrosion resistance (or show). I have not even bothered to check if it results in less fouling or whether the fouling could become stubborn like moly. Funny how these things crop up and make you wonder. Food for thought huh. |
