Nathan FosterRe: Hornady Superformance 150grain SSTHi Daryl, I have found this bullet / load to be good on light framed animals out to a max distance of around 700 yards.Edit sorry: In short barreled rifles yeilding only 2800fps- set max range on light framed animals at 600 yards. |

Daryl TaylorRe: Hornady Superformance 150grain SSTThanks for the inputYes Thomas it is in a Remington .308 which has a 1 in 10 twist. I have some 168 grain SST to try out but waiting to get on a range to try out. I have shot tahr out to 500 yards with it and it has performed well (uneducated opinion!!) Seems to group the best out of all the factory loads I have tried (work dictates no time to experiment with reloading) On the box it says it doing 3000 fps and on the crony it averaged 3040 fps which I believe is pretty quick for that calibre. Any more info/advice appricated. Cheers Daryl |

Nathan FosterRe: Hornady Superformance 150grain SSTThat is not your opinion, that is your experience based on what you have seen.As velocity falls away, the 150gr bullet is capable of adequate penetration. My preference for a slightly heavier bullet (or more accurately a higher SD) for heavier animals is with regards to all around use including situations where penetration may be compromised such as at close ranges. But I completely understand what you are saying and have seen the same myself. |
