john feyereisnI have a savage mod 11 varmint in 308w that shoots pretty good as is with the factory plastic stock, but i still thing a rifle should get a proper bedding job. So i can bed and stabilize the plastic stock it came with, i can spend some more money and bed it into a bell and carlson m40 compsite. The other option i have is to swap out the recoil lug for the correct one and put it into a accustock i have laying around. I know the accustock is probobly not the ultimate in bedding but i would think it is indeed a better setup than the factory plastic with little work or money. I have two other rifles that will be getting complete bedding jobs.Has anyone had good or bad experiences with the accustock? Can it work? |

Nathan FosterRe: Savage options. Accustock vs b&c m40 vs bedding plasticHi John, we have had quite a few customers bedding Accustock rifles. As time has passed, we have been able to gather some generalized data based on customer usage. The Accustocks can suffer two problems rolled into one. On the one hand, the chassis can have very limited contact area with the action- and I mean severely limited contact. Combine this with a pinched recoil lug (the anti of good bedding) due to the Accustock system and you can run into problems. On the other hand, some of these rifles shoot extremely well without bedding. There arfe seldom absolutes when it comes to this sort of thing. If you want to upgrade and make your rifle both handsome and accurate, the B&C is certainly a good option. It really depends on how far you want to take it versus your budget. The stabilizer and bedding kits can make your current stock optimal- the B&C is nice /slick paint job, good chassis and nice to shoot but bedding is still optimal. It really is up to you. |

Barry ShoneRe: Savage options. Accustock vs b&c m40 vs bedding plasticHello JohnI shoot Savage rifles as well. My rifles are left handed bolts, synthetic stocks and pre accu-trigger which seems to make available aftermarket stocks very limited and expensive. I have used Nathan's stabilizer and bedding kits on a couple of them with great success. As a person who chooses function over form, consistent groups in the 1/2" neighborhood suit my purpose even if the rifles are less than glamorous. Best of luck, Barry |

john feyereisnRe: Savage options. Accustock vs b&c m40 vs bedding plasticThe savages i own have been good shooters but the limited availability of quality stocks is a negative. I was happy to see b&c to start inletting some of their designs for the savages with detachable mags |
