Craig HenardI have an old Mauser 98 8x57 JSThe rifle has double cet triggers My issue is the trigger pull when unset is about 7 pounds and when set is about 6 ounces I would like to either get the set pull weight to about 1 to 1-1/2 pounds pull OR get the Unset pull down to about 3 or 4 pounds . Anyone have experience with set triggers that can help in this matter? Thanks Craig |

Charles BrabhamRe: Need Help with Mauser 98 double set triggerSome of them have a small screw between the two triggers that you can adjust. Be sure that the action is properly tightened (Neither too loose or too tight) into the stock because oddly enough, this can effect the trigger's function.Failing that, your best bet is to find a gunsmith who works on the double-set triggers. It may be pricey though, I'd ask for an estimate before shipping the gun. They are not an intuitive design, and after adjustments the parts usually need to be case-hardened again. On older triggers from Mauser, obtaining parts can be an issue, so you need to know that the smith is experienced; Ready, willing and able to do the work. Kind regards, Charles Brabham Alpine, Texas |

Kind regards, Charles Brabham Alpine, Texas Hi Charles Yes the triggers have a screw between them The stock is just tight enough that the rifle shoots well(under an inch with factory or reloads) This is not a rifle that I hunt with very much as it is blued and and we have some extremely humid weather at times. I can live with the trigger as it is but just looking for knowledge as to how to do what I want to do. I like working on my own guns and I will acquire the knowledge BEFORE I remove or alter any parts. Thanks again for your reply Craig |

Craig HenardRe: Need Help with Mauser 98 double set triggerThanks ThomasMy pic taking is not good enough to show the intricate detail of the triggers Besides if someone doesn,t have experience with these triggers then merely looking at my photos isn,t going to help If someone DOES have experience with working with double set triggers on a Mauser rifle then they can probably tell me what to do. I dont think that a lot of people have experience with adjusting these triggers but perhaps someone with this knowledge will read this and chime in. Thanks Craig |

mark whiteleyRe: Need Help with Mauser 98 double set triggerHi,the screw between the triggers is for adjusting the trigger when set, if you take the bolt out, without a scope on you will see a screw around where the sear is and this is for the trigger adjustment when unset, this is how it is on my brno rifle's with set triggers anyway, I will put up some photo's later best regards mark |

mark whiteleyRe: Need Help with Mauser 98 double set triggerHi Craig, very sorry but I had a brain fart when thinking the 98 double set triggers were adjusted with a screw under the bolt, the ZKK brno does but it has a single set trigger, your rifle's set trigger is adjusted the same for the set by the screw between the triggers but the unset trigger would be adjusted by stoning and polishing, not mechanically by a screw like the ZKK's, sorry again and I hope you get it sorted best regards mark |

Craig HenardRe: Need Help with Mauser 98 double set triggerHi MarkNo problem ,I have had my share of brain farts as well ! I can stone and Polish the trigger but just wonder how that is going to affect how rge set feature interacts with it Thanks Craig |
