Trevor WilkesGDAY NATHAN,Just did paper work for the 300rum I grabbed a box of 210 hunting VLDs are they any different to the target VLD. I was given some load data for them that appear to be very accurate in the sendero,I will be concentrating mainly on the 208 amax but may have a play annealing the bergers If its worth it or leave them for heavier game. Got some 150 ssts for the 270 now so just about to have a play with them shall get back to you on how they go. Cheers. |

Nathan FosterRe: 210 berger hunting VLDHi Trevor. The VLD 'target' and 'hunting' are the same bullet. The bullets are simply sorted by forming marks. When the plant is cold in the morning, the machines leave forming marks in the ogive, these are graded as 'hunting' bullets in the hope that the forming marks will leave the tip weakened. This used to be quite true and a good set up, up until the jacket thickness was altered last year.Annealing will not help if the bullet is used on goats, reds and Chital etc. You may get the annealed bullets to work on Camel, Donkey and Sambar. But by the same token, do not use this bullet on scrub bulls. Widening the meplat (tip) of the VLD to 70 thou is more suitable for your local game, you'll have to rework the BC's if you do this. Sounds like a pain and it probably is but you could do an interim experiment. After you have worked up an A-Max load, flatten off a few VLD's (use whatever method you want), use the same powder charge as for the A-max load, then tip over a few pigs and goats just to get a feel for it, maybe tip over a few animals with unaltered projectiles. This will give you the feedback you need without setting up for long range and mucking about with BC recalibration or having to buy a meplat trimmer. |

Trevor WilkesRe: 210 berger hunting VLDGday Nathan,Would the 168gr vld be any different in 308 or would your explination be the same as the 210vld. Cheers. |

Trevor WilkesRe: 210 berger hunting VLDI just refered to the KB Im guessing your answer would be the same for the 308win as to the 300rum I dont wish to complicate my reloading at this stage so I just will put the vlds in the cupboard for now and play with them later down the track.Cheers |

Nathan FosterRe: 210 berger hunting VLDYes, the brand is tough all the way through, changes in bullet weights and impact velocities don't have a great effect anymore. |
