G DogHi All,I've just picked up a wee gem of a ruger m77 in 7x57. Haven't put a round through it yet, But after some research before recieving the rifle I see they can be a bit hit and miss in terms of accuracy - even moreso the 7x57 due to the twist rate and long throat. I will put some rounds through it before I decide on anything, but for those who have owned one or bedded one I would love some tips - also I'll free float it at the same time. I'm hoping it shoots well to begin with because I don't really want to change it's original "form" Cheers all. Grant |

Nathan FosterRe: Bedding tang safety ruger m77Hi Grant, if you have it apart, please send me through a couple of pics. This will allow me to put notes and arrows on them etc. |

Nathan FosterRe: Bedding tang safety ruger m77Hi Grant, I can't see any trouble areas apart from the tang. There was no photo of the actual underside of the tang but from memory, a small blob of compound at the rear will take care of this. The only difference between bedding this and a modern M77 is that you would use less compound at the tang. Just enough to cover the bottom without having it squelch out everywhere. A rear pillar would be good for this rifle.Other than that, its all the same. I would be a wee bit hesitant to shoot it as is. I have never been fond of shooting Rugers in this manner. I would rather set up temp bedding as outlined in the Accurizing book, then decide on proper bedding later if the barrel is worth it. |
