Dale WilhelmHiI have just been watching the videos on bedding (much better for those of us that are visual) in the knowledge base. Very helpful to get my confidence up before attempting the bedding of my Howa .223. The stock stabilising went really well and has taken all the movement out of the front end. My question is that in one of the videos it was mentioned that on the Howa to leave the height reference on the rear tang at the front edge rather than the back, what is the reasoning behind this? I can understand the reason for leaving the height reference but couldn't understand why the front edge, logic would have suggested the back edge as shown on the stock in the video. I have no doubt there is a good reason and curious to know what it is. Thanks Dale |

Ben LawRe: Howa beddingsimple answer, its probably just easier, you will see when you look closer at the stock.the howa's come up nicely, and they're quite simple. |

Martin TaylorRe: Howa beddingI will take a punt on this being a Hogue Rubber coated stock!!I think Nathan's suggestion is to do with the rubber coating Dale, the rear (& sides) of the tang will need under cutting into the rubber to give the largest foot print possible for your compound to purchase on the plastic skeleton. A small line a the front is well exposed and easy to work around leaving it as your height reference. Make sure you leave a large gap between the action and stock to help strengthen the compound, avoiding thin edges as the top section will only have rubber beside them. You will see what l mean when you start relieving as the plastic skeleton stops well before the top edge of the stock! |

Dale WilhelmRe: Howa beddingAh ok, forgot to mention mine is the nasty plastic Howa stock. So I supposed with the plastic I should stick to the same as in the video and keep the height reference at the rear.At least if things don't go well with this one I can at least justify putting a new stock on it. Thanks Dale |
