Paul LevermanBack in October, I started a thread called "A Little Disappointed in Hornady". It evolved into wide open discussion and storied sequence. Included was an account of a bear attack on some of our local hunters. The story finally came to light in the local newspaper.http://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/news/local-news/i-was-just-a-rag-doll-1.2143629 |

Warwick MarflittRe: Now you know the rest of the story....Thanks for the link Paul. Courage bravery and clear headed thinking when faced with A shitty situation. They all did the best they could with what they had available in the moment and survived as best as was possible.I just hope that people who were not there don't dump their beliefs and opinionated ideas onto these guys. It's easy to be wise after the moment. I hope they all recover from the event and heal hearts minds and bodies. |

And I would agree with Warwick that they did the best they could with what they had at hand.I just hope that those of us that have to deal with bears use this case to increase our own "knowledge base" about how to best deal with such sudden and intensely chaotic events. |

Warwick MarflittRe: Now you know the rest of the story....Know your enemy ! Maybe an electric fence with the wire run around trees surrounding camp to keep sleeping hunters safe? An ounce of preventions better than a Tonne of cure!https://am.gallagher.com/nz/products/electric-fencing/fencing/portable-fencing/all-in-one-portable-fences/G70000 https://am.gallagher.com/nz/products/electric-fencing/power/fence-energizers/battery |

Bob MavinRe: Now you know the rest of the story....That should work Warwick.Long as you didn't take a leak on it during the night, like a bloke I took hunting once. We don't have bears but the noise he made would have scarred any bears away :) Bob |

mark korteRe: Now you know the rest of the story....Talk about knowing your enemy.....I once dared an "innocent" coworker to take a leak on such a fence - this one set up to contain cattle. There probably were bears around but when he actually did it I'm sure they didn't stick around long! And I doubt he ever did it again..... |

Warwick MarflittRe: Now you know the rest of the story....Ouch! If you want to test to see if an electric fence is going? Get a long blade of grass and hold one end between your finger and thumb. Rest the tip of the other end on the wire and slowly slide it up the grass closer to your finger. If it's going your finger and thumb will start to twitch! It doesn't hurt you and you now know not to pee on it ;D |
