Kerry AdamsHeya guys.I am developing a load for a .308 700 SPS - Long range target load. I am pushing a 155 Lapua Scenar out of Lapua Brass with Federal 210M Primers and 2208 Powder. I have read that the Scenars need speed - especially as I stretch out further. I have found a band which is giving me good grouping - but it's low FPS. I am now pushing up past the ADI recommended load looking for a higher FPS node. No pressure signs - nothing on the brass, no sticking on the bolt, gun feels fine. Compressed load at this point. Seeing 2985 on the Chrono. Is there anything I need to be aware off going over the published max load? Obviously - I am checking each and every shot for any sign of it being too much - any other pointers? |

Kerry AdamsRe: Load dev - .308 - how high?I think it's more a case of being focused down in on one aspect and overlooking another, now obvious aspect.Yup. Have his book. Time for another re-read me-thinks! ;) |

Jon ShortRe: Load dev - .308 - how high?Hi Kerry, I trim & chamfer exactly the same way that Thomas does with the same Lee gear & I always do this after every neck sizing. I also polish the entire case on a cordless drill & also the inside of the neck (lightly) with maroon scotchbrite to remove any burs left behind from chamfering & for smooth bullet seating. I am surprised how often the brass needs trimming regardless of the calibers I am working with... although they are all running hot loads so things do stretch a bit. It's not a step I would ever omit from my reloading sequence. It's fast & easy to do & the Lee gear is cheap & works very well. Cheers. |
