Ben GradySaturday morning I loaded up some 117gr Prohunters and took the Tikka out for it's first hunt. Finally saw a Goat at 220yards across a gully. I lay prone and shot it through the shoulder. Off the bluff it went. Got up sunday morning and decided to load up some Varmint rounds for the 25 06. 75gr V-max at 3700fps (book load).Trimmed the brass to length and de burred the neck. Used a gauge to sort out the seating depth and had to seat deeper than just off the lands so there was one caliber of projectile seated. Started re-loading and was about 20 rounds in when I realized I hadn't primed the cases. Bugger. Luckily I have a good die bullet puller so out they came. Powder poured back in container and the cases had to be re-sized. Put them in the tumbler to remove any lube. After that I packed a sad and will have another go tomorrow. Just shows mistakes can happen. I see myself as still a novice and have been re-loading about four years now. I did re-read parts of Nathans re-loading book this morning to pick up any finer points. Should have read the bit about priming. What a Muppet. |

Dale WilhelmRe: What a MuppetI use the technique of keeping each case upside down in the holder (a piece of 4x2 with holes in it) until I am ready to put the powder in. Then I seat a bullet in it immediately to make sure I can't spill any powder. Only reason I do this as I have made the same sort of mistakes. Think primed, powdered and trying to seat a bullet in a case that hadn't been sized.Good luck Dale |
