Nathan FosterRe: new hornady products announcedThe big news is the 7mm 180gr M bullet. This will be immensely effective in the magnums. The .270 145gr pill is disappointing. It has the same meplat as the original SST and does not boast a decent increase in BC. I am getting long in the tooth now, very hard to bullshit me. I can tell you now that this will not show any improvement over the 150gr SST. The people who designed it were too afraid of a heavy pill being rejected. So rather than build an optimum bullet, they built what they thought would sell. Still, it will work well. Just don't expect any improvement over the existing SST design in this particular instance. Sorry for the lack of face time here guys. I have been under the hammer again. Very busy testing bullets to their limits, sorting wheat from chaff., hunt, shoot, autopsy, record. Email loading is still high. Repeat factors in my emails: Guys still being caught out buying guns based on brand names alone (Emporers new clothes). Emails of woe, flash looking rifles and optics that don't live up to their names. Fliers, 3 MOA to 4 MOA. Add to this - arrogant gunsmiths and crappy bog bedding jobs. Email hell. If you want to achieve the best, seek self mastery. Apologies for the disjointed post. |

Anon KitchenRe: new hornady products announcedThank you Nathan for as always cutting through the BS.i guess we just have to live with mild bc increase and maybe velocity increase being 5gr lighter and not get to depressed about what could of been. hahaha i almost choked on my cup of tea when i read your comment Chris bloody brilliant |

Mike DavisRe: new hornady products announcedI often wonder why or if indeed when Nosler will put a ballistic tip into the awesome partition...... wonder if they tried it and didnt like it or what????it should boost BC will it not??? cant fault the preformance terminally despite what (pussy penner might say) got a hold of some 110grn tsx to try out...work on paper but Im having a Bambi drought again...... |

Nathan FosterRe: new hornady products announcedIt couldn't hurt Mike. I wonder how hard it would be to swage a small boat tail. All cost factors though. When I tested Marshal Ambrose's 165gr .270, I found it worked fine in a regular .270Win with 10 twist. sadly, Marshal is out of the game now. In any case, after some fiddling, he managed to make a stable bullet. I am sure Hornady could make a 160gr pill and with SF powder, drive it at 2800 to 2820fps which would also aid stability, rather than 2600fps which is what a regular factory load would shoot. A BC of .6 would be adequate. There is a bit more to this but those are the basics. The SD of the bullet alone would aid penetration (as per the 162gr 7mm SST) and mild impact velocities would minimize any risk of shallow penetration. |

Ricardo LaborinRe: new hornady products announcedAll un-ballsy and people-pleasing things aside, it's cool that Hornady is factory loading this 145gr pill no?? It's the equivalent of having the SST at 2950 without reloading??Saludos! |

Timothy KnightRe: new hornady products announcedSo, I'm a little confused Nathan by something you wrote. You say that the ELD-M is the new A-Max. But Hornady still lists the A-Max. Can you expand on that? Also, have you used the A-Max since Hornady tinkered with the jacket and called it AMP jackets? Hopefully they didn't pull a "Berger". |

Nathan FosterRe: new hornady products announcedHornady are still in the middle of the change over so you will see both names for some time. This past year for example, none of the .224 bullets had new tips. These have only just been addressed. It will take some time for Hornady to update all literature including their site. The same goes for retailers.Hornady used the AMP jacket for a long time now, its the good stuff. The name changes have certainly confused many. Hopefully everybody will have a good understanding of this soon enough. Last night, little Riley asked me why surf boards are the shape they are. I gave her a very brief explanation of form and drag, then asked her why she had asked this. Riley replied, "because I was wondering, if they made surfboards square, then sharks would not get them mixed up with seals like people talk about". I replied in turn "the trouble my dear, is that sharks are very smart and would soon work out that these are just square seals". |
