Dan KeeneI have a friend who would like to try Federal Gold Match in his 308 AR10 (18" Barrel) but getting them in NZ is not easy. Does anyone know the recipe for them ? Powder type, powder weight, COAL, projectile type. Then I guess it is gold match primers and Federal cases. If there are any other tricks to duplicating this ammo? Thanks guys. |

Nathan FosterRe: Federal Gold Match 308Hi Dan, no probs. Use the 168gr Sierra MatchKing with 44gr ADI 2208. COAL is 71mm or 2.800" if going imperial. Velocity will be very low, between 2420 and 2520fps.A bit off topic- In days gone by, ammo makers users ball powders to enable full speeds to be obtained form the AR, M14 and SLR platforms. Today, makers use medium burn rate powders, ADI 2208 is used in the U.S by Hornady, but I am not sure whether Federal use it, suffice to say, it is a standard powder. Low pressures and mild velocities are the norm with peak performance obtained in 24" barrels (the above 44gr load achieves around 2650fps in the M24 sniper rifle). The only manufacturers I know of that have re-focused efforts towards optimum carbine velocities are our own Belmont Ammunition A.K.A Ordnance Developments and Hornady with their TAP line. |

Dan KeeneRe: Federal Gold Match 308Thank you Nathan. The loads are going into an AR10 so it will shoot like shit any way."AR15s are like Barbie dolls for boys- They dress them up and play with them." |
