I know you have tried 7mm 190 Gr Matrix but have you tried the 168 Gr? I have a 7mm WSM so the 190 GR probably will not work for my gun.

Re: Matrix 168 GR VLD
Hi Stephan, it is an excellent bullet, pretty much done testing the 168gr now. Good results on various game up to Red deer. It is a fully frangible bullet, slightly tougher than the A-Max, softer than the Berger as has been typical. Penetration has been averaging 16-18". It is a great bullet for LR hunting but works well in close if required. Back off powder charges a touch when switching to any of the Matrix bullets, their internal ballistics behavior is different to other LR bullet brands. Potential velocities are the same- but with slightly less powder.

Thanks for the info about the matrix 168gn at Reloaders Nathan. I assume they out perform annealed Bergers of the same weight?

Hi Richard, the Matrix is slightly stouter than the A-Max but softer than the Berger, ideal for your South Island LR hunting.

Re: Matrix 168 GR VLD
hi Nathan, will this projectile be stable in my 9.25:1 twist barrel?
is there much reason to change from the amax in your opinion?

Re: Matrix 168 GR VLD
Hi Jason, yes it will stabilize.

The Matrix is slighty stouter than the A-max and can therefore be used with better effect at close ranges / high velocity on larger bodied animals such as Red deer, without the delay in killing which often occurs from too much resistance met on impact. I wrote in the KB, that this delay in killing can be up to 45 seconds. Penetration is superior to the A-Max, width of wounding identical. It is simply a case of more gradual fragmentation.

A second reason to use the Matrix, once stock arrives in NZ, is that for the foreseeable future the 162 grain A-max will be unobtainable in NZ.

Re: Matrix 168 GR VLD
why will it be unobtainable?

thanks?

Re: Matrix 168 GR VLD
Because demand is exceeding supply in the U.S and we in NZ are the furthest down the feeding chain so to speak. Even the raw materials are in short supply. The problem is compounded immensely and perhaps foremost by the U.S military stock piling ammo with indefinite orders (infinite quantity orders). There is more to this than a period of panic buying.

Re: Matrix 168 GR VLD
ok, I see what your saying. when I read that, I tried to get some amax from a guy. they were sold out, on back order and he didn't know when more were coming. so im guessing the rest of nz is much the same. I do have some so im not to worried right now. I asked if he knew about the matrix, he hadn't heard anything. I will keep an eye out for amax if they come available. but the matrix does sound good, so as they come along I will grab some and try and get a load going.
theres nothing wrong with a different load for every day of the week is there. :-)
