Riley DeckerI was finally able to test some of Marshal's 160 grain VLDs from my 30" savage 6.5x284, i found best accuracy at 52.5 grains of retumbo (easily under a 1/4 MOA at 100 yards) .174" off the lands (the first seating depth i have tried) at about 2750 fps. Others shooting this cartridge have also found these bullets like 52.5 grains of retumbo and like to be seated at least .080" off the lands. Here is a great thread with lots of data in it: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/160gr-matrix-112547/I also shot one into some milk jugs at 100 yards at about 2450 fps impact velocity, they retained 29.4 grains and penetrated 4 jugs, i did this test just to give me an idea on penetration at close range. I am barnesuser28 in the thread above. I will update this thread once i get more info and do more testing. |

Nathan FosterRe: 6.5 160 grain Matrix VLDHi Riley, 30 grains recovered is about perfect for a frangible bullet, that is great to hear. Sounds like the rig is going to produce some excellent results in the field. Thanks for the update and info. |

Riley DeckerRe: 6.5 160 grain Matrix VLDOthers have done more testing with this bullet, and found they need to be annealed cherry red from the tip to 1/4" down for them to expand at low velocities. Marshal also recommended annealing them. |

Nathan FosterRe: 6.5 160 grain Matrix VLDI wonder if these folk learned to anneal the projectiles from this site. It would be nice if people would share results (or donate) after finding the info useful. |
