Nathan FosterHi guys, just a quick one, I have uploaded some 7mm Practical / 180gr bullet testing footage to youtube but have (perhaps just for now) set the youtube page to unlisted due to graphic content / nature of the testing. To access the vid, please visit the 7mm Practical page and scroll about halfway down (performance section). The youtube link can be shared with friends but otherwise, may be best as it is and left unlisted. https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/7mm+Practical.html |

Luke LahdenrantaRe: 7mm Practical long range 180gr ELD-M footageThank you for posting this video it is really helpful to see exactly what you are seeing when you are running these bullets. That pig shot at closer range also answers perfectly the question in my mind how the 180 eld m might perform on something like a mule deer at a similar range. Looks pretty good! I wonder, how much if any, penetration the 175 ELD X would add to a similar close range shot like that? Maybe a somewhat larger exit wound? |

Nathan FosterRe: 7mm Practical long range 180gr ELD-M footageHi Luke, the ELD-X offers some extra insurance but with its heavy jacket coupled with magnum velocities it can over expand and then arrest like the SST. But generally speaking, it does show greater penetration. Please see notes on annealing the ELD-X in the Cartridge book. |

Nathan FosterRe: 7mm Practical long range 180gr ELD-M footageIts working well thanks Chris, she has been spending quite a bit of time at the range with it lately. You made a great job of it thanks. |

Joshua MayfieldRe: 7mm Practical long range 180gr ELD-M footageThat's terrific. Thanks for putting that up. Highly informative, but also a reminder that bullet selection can only produce positive results when the shooter is up to the task. To the range, to the range...Good looking Riflebird Bowie you were wielding, by the way. |

Paul LevermanRe: 7mm Practical long range 180gr ELD-M footageWell done. Good to see actual footage versus edited.Interesting that you can actually see the bullet path as it travels to the target. |

Andrew MurrayRe: 7mm Practical long range 180gr ELD-M footageI am always fascinated by the vapour trails on bullets Paul. It's great to see their arc in flight. When I was shooting at night you could (if you were not the shooter) the bullet moving through the night sky. The ranges were short so no impressive arc or length of time but you could see them, like a tracer. I can only imagine they caught the spot light, or some still burning powder was caught in behind its wake. I was using the 168gr Z Max version. Which is just the same as the A Max but with a different coloured tip. |

Warwick MarflittRe: 7mm Practical long range 180gr ELD-M footageDon't mean to hijack the thread. I saw this on filming high speed objects and it's pretty cool and informitivehttp://petapixel.com/2017/11/13/ultra-high-speed-cameras-shoot-25000000-fps/ So fast that they can film the start of an atomic explosion. |
