ELD-VT

I can’t see anything on this site regarding Hornady’s new projectile. Just curious how it would go at the 1800, 1600 & 1400 walls … or beyond depending on game weight given the particular construction. I suspect ol Nathan might be experimenting with them currently or has already done so.
I suspect/assume shallow penetration on large animals vs equivalent weight ELD-Ms

Cheers

Re: ELD-VT
Hi Brad, I am currently performing tests, I am especially interested in the .30 cal 174gr. The main difference is the ogive construction. With the ELD-M, the lead core extends into the ogive. The core itself is hollow pointed with the tip inserted down into this HP. Lead within an ogive can unfortunately reinforce this area and therefore inhibit expansion at low speeds / energy levels.

The ELD-VT has an open cavity / ogive.

For this year's testing, I have been taking a much closer look at these seemingly minor aspects of construction, factors that might easily be overlooked. It has been a slow and frustrating process, challenging assumptions and what I think I know to be true etc. Lots of field work. Am quite a way off publishing as I want to ensure that my data is meaningful / useful, correlating cause and effect etc. I don't want to offload a bunch of pontificating drivel to readers.

All the best.
