john mitchellI went ahead and built a 7 practical. My rifle has a 28" barrel. So far it only seems to like to go fast. Unfortunately with the 190 matrix it is showing pressure signs (hard extraction, extractor marks and expansion at the belt). Would docking the barrel to 26" lower pressure? It is shooting the 168 matrix at 3280 fps in the fire form load (I said it likes to go fast) and doing close to 1/2 moa out to 300 meters. The 190 matrix is traveling at a little over 3000 fps. All groups shot at lower powder charges have opened up to 11/2 moa or more. I'm open to knew ideas. Thanks |

Nathan FosterRe: 7mm practicalBest to call me on our land line John during NZ business hours. There are so many variables to cover. |

faulknerRe: 7mm practicalJohn I run the 190 at 3030 with Reloder 25 with no issue but will be going back to H1000 once I have more on hand to se how that does.Nathan, no secrets now LOL. cheers Aj |

john mitchellRe: 7mm practicalHey NathanYour suggestion with the sst paid off. Hit an accuracy node at 77grs. (h1000) and again at 79.5 (that with pressure signs again). Nathan thought the longer ogive on the sst would get the bullet close to the lands. Thanks |

Nathan FosterRe: 7mm practicalThats great news John.FYI for Adam. We went over this job by phone. The smith cut the throat very long on this one. Besides loading for concentricity (which John is already doing), I suggested the SST because it hits the lands without having to be seated out into the case neck- effectively shortening jump. Everything else is sound including bedding, load methods etc. This basically means that the rifle is now up and running which takes the pressure off. If John wants to experiment with other bullet designs and loads later on, he won't be under any major stress to get the rifle to perform. |
