Jared ThibodauxI noticed there are alot of 7mm guys here, I am going to give my 7 mag one more good run to try and get it grouping before I start taking drastic steps. The rifle is a Ruger MkII walnut stocked 24" barrel 1:9.25" twist in excellent condition. Here is my list of parts. 139gr SSTs 140gr SGKs 145gr Speer BTSPs and Barnes LRX 150gr SGKs and Ballistic Tips 154gr SSTs 160gr Deep Curls and SGKs IMR 7828, and 4350 RL19, 22 and 25 H4831 and H1000 Ramshot Big Game and Hunter Rem and Federal brass CCI magnum primers If you were trying to develop a load from the ground up where would you start? Thus far I have seen no clear preference for any bullet weight they have all been in the 1.5-2MOA range, it does not seem to like the scant ogive of the SST bullets they have been more toward the 2MOA mark, but that may be something else I am doing wrong. I have not yet tried RL25 or 7828 I just found them today after months of searching. Any advice? |

Nathan FosterRe: 7mm Rem Mag loadsHi Jared, this is the final aspect of the project and not the starting point. You need to first start by bedding the rifle and going through each of the accuracy factors relevant to the rifle before looking at loads. It sounds like the rifle may have some potential but you need to do the ground work first. Again why I recommended the book series. The 160gr GK and H1000 or H4831 would be good for load work. I have put general load data in the second book which cannot be found in reloading manuals. Rem or Federal brass will be fine. You may find a load that shoots well without doing any bedding work etc. But long term, a pillar bedding job will help preserve your rifle. If you do not look into this, there may come a time when the stock splits just ahead of the trigger. Sometimes it happens to new rifles, sometimes to older rifles, you never can tell. bedding would also help prevent stock warping issues. |

Jim MoseleyRe: 7mm Rem Mag loadsI used the 150 BT for years until I moved up to the Amax. We were shooting Rems and the Nosler manual was dead on the money each time. Set up my cousin's Sendero last year. 150 BT/ 68grs 7828/ Fed 215 primers/ Win brass/ bullet seated .010 off the lands. Easily shoots .3/.4 @100yds. Easiest bullet I've ever loaded! Good luck and lets us know how it works. |
