deerndingoHi All,Just a left fielder question here. I usually carry a bit of stuff when hunting - water - ammo - binos - ect. I have a light weight 7mm RM rifle. If I could somehow attach my "stuff" to the fore-stock, thereby increasing the weight of the rifle, wouldn't that make the rifle more controllable? I told you it was left field. |

Nathan FosterRe: Adding Weight to RifleNothing wrong with left field.Much of my heavy items are quite bulky- binos and such that are too big to fit to a forend and are also needed in hand, not attached to the rifle. You would need a tube forend that goes under the barrel, then have your first aid kit and gun cleaning kit within. But then there is the problem of a bulky tube forend. So I don't know. I guess it could be done. The weight would need to be somewhat constant so as not to change the POI. There are two ways that you can improve a such a rifle without simply adding lead to the forend. The first is to fit a heavy optic such as a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22- a simple fix and highly useful. A second option is to attach a forwards pistol grip for more control- whether that be a proper grip (picatinny fitting) or a grinder handle fitted (on a plastic stock, you would fill the forend with stabilizer but also fit a nut for the grinder handle and stabilze this in place. The pistol grip may not suit some folk- may be hard on the wrists (angles). |

Thomas KitchenRe: Adding Weight to Riflegets the old brain thinking deerndingo.i have heard of people putting emergency blankets and matches in the stock on synthetic rifles by unscrewing recoil pad. but as for other items guess anything can be done if it needs to be. i have thought i wonder if light rifles like tikka's if there's a difference just have a mag full of bullets and would it be a good idea to fit a 5 round mag and keep it full. think when i upgrade my scope on my tikka i might do a rail and rings to add weight plus a bigger scope |

deerndingoRe: Adding Weight to RifleI was thinking more of attaching the "load" to the front sling swivel. Not sure how. The load would have to be constant and fixed. |

Thomas KitchenRe: Adding Weight to Riflemaybe bit of pvc pipe with screw caps run along bottom of stock attached to sling stud? worth a trying something to see if it works |
