Jacob JensenDoes any of you have any experience with the new Remington 700 Long Range? As I can see it's a bit cheaper than the Sendero and Police. The stock is a Bell and Carlson M40, monte carlo style... Any concerns with that design? Also - in Nathans books he devide the Remingtons in to groups of build-quality - Sendero, Police and R5 being the top of the line... Where does this rifle fit in? J. |

Martin TaylorRe: Remington 700 "Long Range"Nathan covers that stock design in his book Jacob, will work but it exaggerates recoil to a degree and the fore grip is not as good as say the Sendero. I have only used one of these stocks on a 308 (I think it was?) and it worked ok on that.My understanding of these is that they can vary in builds (check the old threads) but generally they were along the lines of a SPS varmint in the better quality stock. All the normal Rem tweaks will be needed as in your book and build quality is still on the lower side of where these once top notch rifles where & should be. |

Jacob JensenRe: Remington 700 "Long Range"Thanks Martin!I'll look in to the books again :-) I was most concerned about the action and barrel - guess I should look for a Sendero instead. J. |

Martin TaylorRe: Remington 700 "Long Range"It's hard to beat the stainless in a practical hunting rifle, but l guess in depends on how & where you intended to use it.I run the Police because the $ was right at the time. They get the job done well after the normal Rem tweaks, the LR would be the same. l have set up Senderos & also helped a fella with his 5R and wouldnt hesitate to go with either of these if it suits. Just remember that it will likely need some if not all the tuning that Nathan discribes in his book reguardless of which way you go! |

Nathan FosterRe: Remington 700 "Long Range"Hi Jacob, its been a good run so far. The rifles I have seen and worked on have turned out to be very good shooters, same comments coming in from readers elsewhere after performing DIY accurizing work. All of Marty's comments are on the money- thanks Marty. |
