MattHi all,I'm wanting to know if anyone has any experience with these types of scopes? I know there is a massive debate about ethics and so on, but if we forget that for the moment. I'm thinking a detachable rifle scope type, that can be used to spot animals with (hares, possums, wallabies, pigs, deer) when off the rifle, and maybe also using it to shoot with when on the rifle, if the opportunity arises. Most likely a spotlighting scenario, so with or without the spotlight depending on the situation. Shots probably out to 200m max. So I want to know what to look for in specs, objective size, makes, models. Price range, around $2000-2500US. Any info would be appreciated! |

MattRe: Thermal imaging scopeHi Bryan, I'm after a thermal imaging scope rather than a night vision. Its characteristically different in that the thermal image gives heat patterns, making it easier to pick out animals, or humans as it was first designed for, in the dark, or heavy bush. |

Warwick MarflittRe: Thermal imaging scopeYep infer red needs light and light causes shadows. You can hide your shadow but not your body heat or where you have been sitting, lying , hiding? I looked into the Flir thermal systems. BMW use the flir pathfinder system. Maybe a cheap way to get thermal is to buy the camera and screen loom from a wreaked car? The frame rate is very slow 9hz on the models available for joe public so you can't target fast moving objects. ! 30hz are restricted to the population shepherds and war mongers.https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=flir+scout&client=ms-android-samsung&biw=360&bih=592&tbm=isch&prmd=ivn&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiW_tSYiavNAhVh6KYKHXKqAWQQ_AUIBSgB&dpr=1.5#imgrc=mydeyIE-Mll3iM%3A https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=flir+scout&client=ms-android-samsung&biw=360&bih=592&tbm=vid&prmd=ivn&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjEhO6ViavNAhUBUaYKHYHfCwcQ_AUIBygC&dpr=1.5 http://www.flir.com/thermoSightR-Series/ |
