gunwerks G7 BR2

I'm currently using a leupold 800i TBR rangefinder and its getting to that point I'm going to need to upgrade as it struggles to get good readings much past 600yards and it needs a really good reflective surface to even achieve that even.
now I'm thinking that i will put down some decent money and get something thats going to do more then i currently need so as to avoid having to upgrade to soon in the future. Ive done a lot of research into different units and rangefinder binos etc and because of the amount of money the high end units cost I'm not keen on buying something without putting serious thought into it.
the features I would like it to have is the angle compensation as its one less thing to muck around with, not trying to sound lazy its just something i find incredibly handy.
units I'm seriously looking at currently are the
g7 br2 I've heard great things about these units and i know a few people using them and they do sound like it measures up to what they say it can do. price tag in nz $2699 so not cheap!

sig sauer kilo 2000
this looks like a very good unit with angle compensation and seems to hold up to ranging past a mile accurately and the price tag is a lot nicer on the bank at just under 1grand.

I've tossed up the idea of bushnell fusion RF binos but I'm really not sure these are what I'm after and testing them in the shop they didnt really fit my face that well but its not out of the question as I like the idea of combined units.

Leica RF Binoculars you order them in yards or meters. I have 10x56 in yards. Amazing to see through and good to 1400 yards. Makes for a lifetime purchase. A 2$ protractor a screw and a bit of wire and you can make a very simple accurate angle gauge

These 8x above appear to be much cheaper than through the hunting equipment stores. They most probably could order the 10x for you?

I guess you first need to decide whether you want range finders built into binos or whether you want to try and save money and keep things separate.

I don't really want anything other than range from my unit. I like to work everything else out in my head and on paper or use Shooter if I am really pushing boundaries. The same goes for wind meters. But thats just me.

Yesterday I wanted to shoot long and I wanted to connect first shot at 1140 yards on a small rock. I fired my first copper fouling shot with trail boss at a dead tree stump, then went at sat down up high. I got my note book out and binos. I checked the range, I checked for wind movement, a wind meter would have been useless as I was shooting across two entirely different land shapes / valley systems. I went over my click rules, the same I put in the shooting book. I estimated the angle at "around" 10 degrees. I could use Shooter to check if need be, but I am practiced now.

I just sat and watched. Then I took my shot and achieved what I wanted to achieve.

In a game hunting situation, this means getting into position early. You are going to be glassing anyway and all of these checks help keep your head in the game. Having said this, angle is something you have to think about if shooting out to to 300 yards and at times when a shot is presented but you don't have time to range anything or use calculators. So you do have to commit info to memory and it can pay to avoid being overly reliant on technology.

I think beyond reliability of readings and maximum range intentions, this really is up to you.

yes i know i am a bit of a techno whore sometimes it gets the best of me haha.
i always come back to the basics tho and i don't let gadgets take over from using my brain i like them to help advance my skills like reading angles and wind etc.
i have found most of the binoculars I've tried with ranging capabilities haven't been overly comfortable fit for my face other then maybe ziess but at 5grand its getting up bit high for me.

Re: gunwerks G7 BR2
Try the Leica's the eye caps rotate and extended to clear a large nose bridge. Both eyes have+\- focus adjustment for old worn-out uneven eyes. They're clear and if that link above can do for that price I think you'll be a happy shooter? I got mine because Nathan used them and brought mine untested and they just get better the more I use them and they're a lifetime investment. I just have to be vigilant with battery care so they don't leak from age? I have thought of making a lightweight skeleton stock and mounting my 8- 32 x 56 Sightron to it as a spotting rig? Take your time and do your research and I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide?

Re: gunwerks G7 BR2
that is a pretty hot price, i'll have to be cunning to slip it past the wife tho haha.
yes I'm going to have to make a decision like nathan said as to what exactly i want because at the moment I'm still very undersided.
i very much like the concept of the g7 br2 and i think using technology to our advantge as long as it doesnt get in the way of using our brain and common sense isn't a bad thing. shit i think I've spent to long down in the engine room this morning inhaling toxic fumes I'm losing the plot!
bino rangefinders here i come! look out bank account your about to get a hammering!

Re: gunwerks G7 BR2
Make sure that they're insured for theft damage and so on. And as dad taught me always use the strap around your neck. Well done Sebastian you have them for life look after them. Oh and just give the Trouble and strife 2.25k for Birthday prezzi and the same thing for Christmas. Haha Nathan and Steph Need a second pair to stop arguments. I just had a quick add up And two rifles, optics(3 scopes + Leica's , Reloading equip and chronograph ????? phew that's expensive Venison. Unfortunately if I divide that by 30 years it's around four hundred a year as long as it all lasts that long and I get meat for all the family and friends it's cheap protein. Heck some guys spend hundreds of thousands on a fishing boat. You'll need another freezer for the extra meat now too.

Leica geovid
So I finally got out and had a play with my new Leica rangefinders and boy oh boy what a fine piece of equipment they are. It would be a understatement to say they are amazing.
Went out the back of the farm and got readings at 2065yards off hand no support on a grassy hill side. I had some new swede loads I wanted to test with the ELD MATCH 140 grainers so found a rock out in the paddock about the size of a small truck and spray painted afew bright orange circles on the side about 12inches across. Drove back around the road and set up my shooting postion at 1021yards, took the temp, baro pressure and distance imputed into shooter app with the same info from my old 140grain amax load as I hadn't re sighted or chronyed the new load. Dialled in 27.4 Moa. The only wind was the last 100yards to the target at about 10mph so didn't bother holding any wind. Shooting over my backpack with a sand bag at the rear my first fouling shot from a clean and lubed barrel impacted 4 inches left dead on for height then my next 3 shots impacted 12inches high and 4inches right all within 4 inches of each other.

Re: gunwerks G7 BR2
You got to be happy with that Sebastian. The binoculars sound like the eternal Christmas present that never stops to give and amaze! Cool eh! I still get excited when I get my ones out for Deer spotting.
