Kenneth KephartI just recieved my Sightron S-TAC 4-20X50 MOA scope today.Bought from Amazon as an "open box" special. $350 US. I was surprised to get a scope cover with it. I will be mounting this on my custom Mauser in 284 Win. Used mostly for hunting with occassional range days. Will give reviews after mounting/ sight in, and long term. |

Bryan WebsterRe: Sightron S-TACSorry Kenneth, but Paul is correct. Optics Planet is in the USA while here in Canada we really get screwed around with very high import costs. Depending on what model STAC the prices range from around $600 to $1350 or so Canadian Dollars.Ordering them in from the USA is not simple either and many retailers in the USA cannot export into Canada. We either have to locate a Canadian Importer or a retailer that has them in stock. |

Kenneth KephartRe: Sightron S-TACFinally got the Warne low rings in today and got it mounted up.As i mentioned this went on a comercial Mauser action (Interarms Whitworth). I installed an E.R. Shaw 24" barrel in 284 Winchester. Did final reaming myself. Rifle had an adjustable trigger already. Set at 6lb. It now is at 2.5lb. Bell & Carlson composite stock. EGW 20 MOA Picatinny base. Warne 30mm low fixed rings. And the Sightron STAC. Knobs for focus and paralax were really stiff when i first got it. Have loosened up some with me playing with it. Installed on the rifle no issues adjusting any of the knobs. When i took the 20 MOA out of the scope and went to zero the knob was surprised not to see any serations under the turret. Just the 3 set screws in a ring. Now that it's mounted i can get back to doing load development. Will keep you posted. |

Kenneth KephartRe: Sightron S-TACWell got it to the range. Love this scope!Thank you all for turning me on to Sightron! Paralax and zoom knobs have loosened up and move smoothly. Paralax knob is agressive on the knurling. The little flip lever on the zoom is not needed. Even with gloves. Box test performed admirably. Ended up 1/2" to the right. But was my fault, not the scopes. Polish, dislexic me. Optics nice and clear. At least to me. Up to max power. One of the concerns i read was the fine cross hair and losing it while hunting in the woods. Not a concern! Faded red steel ram in clearing on mountain was easily found on 12 power. Easier yet on 20. I did get it to flare out. But was no worse than the other scopes i had with me. 2 Vortex, 1 Redfield Revenge. Shooting partners Leupold flared out also. Problem with target close to top of the mountain. Low light conditions were no problem either. As i said, i'm loving this scope! |

Kenneth KephartRe: Sightron S-TACUpdate..Have been shooting this on my Mauser. Still loving it! Decided to shoot an F-Open 600 yard match. Switched scope over to my Stevens 200 in 7mm-08AI. Eye relief was greatly appreciated shooting from prone! No issues with the reticle being so fine. Actually was more a help. Paralax adjusted with no issues. Clicks for elevation/windage nice and crisp. At 20 power could see and read the mirage. Again a big thanks to all for turning me on to Sightron! |

Kenneth JohnsonRe: Sightron S-TACI bought my first 30mm scope and second Sightron last month. It is a 3-16x42 S-tac. So far, it is a great scope; however, I do have reservations about the thin crosshairs in a brush hunting situation! Can they be modified by Sightron with a “dot.? Any hunting experience with this reticle in really low light conditions? Thanks |

Nathan FosterRe: Sightron S-TACHi Kenneth, the 3-16 MOA model is very difficult to see in low light / close range / bush situations. This has come up on the forums here before and I do personally find this scope difficult to use under a bush canopy. My camera tells me that its not just me, the evidence is in the photographs. I have written lengthy math laden emails to Sightron and while the sales staff have been interested in making changes to the 3-16, the board of directors have not moved on any advice.For open country work, this scope is quite fine. Unfortunately it suits me better than most folk as it fits in well here for some of our test rifle work (If you want to hock it later, please let me know). I am not sure if Sightron can retrofit a new reticle but you might like to send a polite email, explain your concerns and ask if they can change the reticle. They need to hear feedback of this nature. All the best. Daylight, but under the bush canopy.

Kenneth JohnsonRe: Sightron S-TACI got a answer to my reticle question today from Sightron's customer service. They said the only thing they can do is change the S-TAC to the "Duplex" configuration for $135 U.S. Not a very appealing option in my case. I already have it mounted on a 7 RemMag and will will see if I can "make a go of it". Nathan, I appreciate your offer and future consideration. Regards, Ken |

bryan longRe: Sightron S-TACWas out on targets with my 76 year old dad at the weekend.No matter what he did in good light he couldn't see the MOA reticule I'll put the MOA-2 on for him and see how it goes. But an invisible reticule isn't great. |

Kenneth JohnsonRe: Sightron S-TACI'm going to "hock" my 3-16X42 S-tac Sightron to the "highest" bidder (or a reasonable offer). It's a great scope, but the MOA reticle is too "dim" for use in the shadowy hunting environments I hunt. And, I am not a competitive shooter. Ken |
